Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, as the Chancellor of NIELIT Deemed to be University, brings a visionary approach to advancing technological education and innovation in India. With his extensive experience as a Member of Rajya Sabha from Odisha and his leadership in key portfolios such as Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics and Information Technology, he is uniquely positioned to guide the institution toward excellence.

Under his stewardship, NIELIT Deemed to be University, established in 2024 under the UGC (Institution Deemed to be Universities) Regulations, 2023, is poised to become a beacon of skill development and capacity building in the fields of IT, electronics, and emerging technologies. The university, with its main campus in Ropar, Punjab, and 11 constituent centres across India, is committed to fostering innovation, research, and inclusive education to empower the marginalized sections of society, aligning with the philosophy of 'Antyodaya'.

Shri Vaishnaw’s academic background, with a Master’s in Technology from IIT Kanpur and an MBA from Wharton, combined with his expertise in technology and finance, enables him to steer NIELIT toward creating market-oriented programs that meet the evolving demands of the IT and electronics industries. His vision emphasizes leveraging technology to provide end-to-end solutions, from e-learning to digital certifications, ensuring accessibility and efficiency for students and stakeholders.

As Chancellor, Shri Vaishnaw is dedicated to strengthening NIELIT’s role as a premier institution under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, driving initiatives in cyber security, cloud computing, e-Governance, and more, to build a skilled workforce for a digitally empowered India.
